Touchstones
2005 - 2010
The works in Touchstones reflect on humanity, the things that we value and the consequences of our exaltation in a world of contingencies. They show decontextualised entities; the familiar, the revered, the ubiquitous - touchstones.
The subjects of these photographs are together the object of some form of reverence, altered through the often inelegant necessities of everyday life, the intervention of nature or the human hand. Their pictured circumstances question their traditional associations, some light-heartedly, others less so.
Touchstones was exhibited at Satellite Gallery, Auckland, New Zealand from 15 June - 3 July 2010, and at Platform Gallery, Melbourne, Australia from 5 - 31 July 2010.
